The Hague Family - Herbert Keller

Herbert Walter Keller, 1st/4th Battalion, Northamptonshire Regiment

I am not certain that this man was a relative of my grandmother, Lucy Frances Keller. It seems likely, as he was clearly resident in the same area, and the name appears to have moved to the Wellingborough area of Northamptonshire sometime around 1800, from where it has spread to Irthlingborough, Kettering and Burton Latimer. I would think it most likely that he was one of my grandmother's cousins.

Herbert Walter was recorded as being born in Wellingborough in 1897. In the 1901 census, his mother was Emily a widow, and he had siblings John, Sarah Ann, Alfred, Lizzie, Charles, Fred and Arthur. Here, Herbert is recorded as having been born in Irthlingborough along with all his siblings, so that seems more likely than Wellingborough.

His parents seem to be John Keller and Emily Wright who married in Wellingborough in 1879. Lucy Wright was my grandmother's mother, so I wonder if Lucy and Emily were indeed sisters. I had already found a sister to Lucy called "Emma" and I wonder if that is the same person as "Emily". It would mean that Frances Lucy Wright and Emily Wright, sisters, married Alfred Keller and John Keller respectively, who may well have been brothers!

There is a Commonwealth War Graves Commission record for this gentleman.

It seems very likely that a number of Walter's brothers also served during the First World War, but I have not yet had the time to research them.
