Probably took off from RAF Tempsford. An aircraft crash landed at Great Barford on a training flight following an engine fire. The crew escaped but the aircraft was destroyed by fire. The aircraft was Halifax Mk V, LK736 of 138 Squadron. Flying Officer Carter was killed. No other details known.
